Despite Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) apparently dying in the end, he appears alive and well in the next movie La vendetta della pantera rosa (1978) where he is discharged from the mental hospital where he had been admitted at the end of the previous film, La pantera rosa colpisce ancora (1975). Neither his death nor his attempt to blackmail the entire world is mentioned, opening up the possibility that The Pink Panther Strikes Again takes places entirely in Dreyfus' mind while he is incarcerated, possibly as one long dream or delusion.
