Jan De Bont is a huge Stanley Kubrick fan and tries to include a nod to the filmmaker in all of his movies. Here it's a literal reference as they crash in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre where they're showing a re-release of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
