Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) appeared in Blossom (1990); a show in which Bialik portrayed the title character. During this show's first season, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) suggests the gang recruit Mayim Bialik for their Physics Bowl team when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) pulls out, saying, "You know who's apparently very smart, is the girl who played TV's Blossom. She got a PhD in Neuroscience or something." Bialik soon joined the cast during the third season as Dr. Amy Farrah-Fowler, who has a PhD in Neurobiology, a.k.a. Neuroscience.
