The cigars Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington were smoking on film, Montecristo #2, are the same kind Tony Scott smoked daily. The special effects crew had to pull a permit from the Culver City Fire Department and have a fire extinguisher standing by to allow Tony Scott to smoke his cigars on set while filming the movie.
