The Duloks first appeared in the 1984 storybook "The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense", written and illustrated by Joe Johnston. As the leader of the tribe in this earlier story, King Vulgarr, ends up being petrified, series story editor Paul Dini decided to created three new Duloks to head up the tribe: King Gorneesh, his wife Lady Urgah and Umwak the Shaman.
