The leather armor worn by Maximus when he first becomes a gladiator was originally made for Russ Tamblyn as the character Orm in the viking epic Le lunghe navi (1964). It was also been used in L'ultima tentazione di Cristo (1988) as the uniform of a roman centurion and in Vikings (2013) by several characters, such as one of Ragnar's crew members.
