General Sline says that he bribed the House Committee for Covert Appropriations, and they would think the money he asked for would be be for more stealth bombers, instead of his underground base. "Spies Like Us" was released in 1985, four years before the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber was revealed to the public. However, the F-117 "stealth fighter" was rolled out in 1983. Even though designated and named as a fighter aircraft, the F-117 has no air-to-air weaponry -- it is strictly a penetration bomber an cannot engage other aircraft. The Air Force gave the development program the "F" (fighter) prefix to mislead Congress, as they thought it would be easier to procure funding from them for a new fighter rather than a bomber. This scene may therefore be a joke for those in the know at the time.
