According to director Cal Brunker, Rubble has a few influences to Disney comic-relief sidekicks such as the Genie from Aladdin (1992), Timon and Pumbaa from Il Re Leone (1994), Mushu from Mulan (1998), Dory from Alla ricerca di Nemo (2003), Tow Mater from Cars - Motori ruggenti (2006), and Olaf from Frozen - Il regno di ghiaccio (2013).
