Director Rian Johnson stated that he would have loved to feature more of Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), but the movie was already quite full, and there was no more place for her in the story other than a brief appearance near the end. Her death scene was originally longer: after the floor starts to collapse, she and a few Stormtroopers manage to crawl back onto a platform to confront Finn again and call him a traitor. Finn then manages to turn the troopers against Phasma, by telling how she quickly lowered the shields on Starkiller base in the previous movie after he had threatened her with a blaster. Phasma quickly dispatches the troopers, after which Finn manages to grab a blaster cannon, and finally kills Phasma. The scene was shortened to what is in the movie, but the deleted part can be viewed on the BluRay edition.
