Area code 915 suggests the movie is set somewhere in western Texas, possibly El Paso. [38:32] This is later confirmed if you look carefully at one of Quaid's fake IDs that he pulls out of the suitcase inside the old cement factory, which lists him as "James D. Brubaker" of "El Paso, TX". The (915) area code was split in 2003 to create (325) and (432) which covers between El Paso and Fort Worth so it could have also been Abeline, San Angelo, or San Antonio.
