This film fits in with the Pixar Theory first put forward by Jon Negroni who also has a YouTube channel, that theory posits that after the events of Wall-E (2008), animals evolved over time into the monsters from Monsters Inc. (2001), in this film there's a species of sea creature in the 1950's that already has the ability to rapidly change into and out of human form.
