Jones's manager, Bobbie Edrck, informed Lorimar Television and ABC that her client was interested in doing a TV series. Lorimar had two pilot pilot scripts developed for him: a comedy and a drama that would ultimately become Gabriel's Fire. Lorimar President Les Moonves decided that the drama had the best chance of success as Jones was more identifiable to audiences in a drama.
