Sportswriter Dan Duryea is loosely based on Hearst newspapers writer Ford Frick. Later, as Commissioner of Baseball, he dictated that Babe Ruth's and Roger Maris' season home run records be listed separately (for Ruth's 154-game season vs. Maris' 162-game season) to preserve Ruth's record. The "asterisk" (See 61* (2001)) remained on Maris's record from the date he set the record (October 1, 1961) until September 4, 1991 when MLB's Committee for Statistical Accuracy voted to remove it.
