In the original incarnation, the series final was a "best of three" tournament between the semi-final winners. In the later years, these would be scheduled in a single week, so if there were only two episodes listed in the TV guide, the winner of the first game must win the second and therefore be named champions. When it was revived on the BBC, the final became an ordinary single match.
