Harry Enfield was cast in the co-starring role of Dermot Povey due to his popularity as comedian since the mid-1980s. However, Enfield specialized in sketch comedy and voice acting. He had not been cast in a regular role in a sitcom before, and found it difficult to adjust to this format. He resigned following the first season of the series.
