Early drafts of the script had different introductory scenes. In one, the mission is set off after alien hieroglyphs are found on Earth in an underwater dig. In another, they are found on an excavation site on Mars, where Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) has created a large terraforming colony. Other scenes showed his office on Earth in Amsterdam, as well as his large wheel-like biosphere in space with buildings in it. Though concept art of these ideas was completed, all these scenes were never filmed for budget and pacing reasons, and replaced with Shaw and Holloway's introduction on the Isle of Skye. The only remnant of Weyland's terraforming colony on Mars can be seen in the background of his hologram message on board the Prometheus.
