During production, fifty new Stormtrooper helmets were made rather than reusing the remaining twelve from Guerre stellari (1977) and L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980). For that, a new mold was made from the cast of an existing suit, which collapsed during manufacturing. This explains the slightly squashed appearance of the helmets.
