The cartoon bares a couple of similarities to the Star Wars film franchise: Sally (a Princess) and Sonic lead the Freedom Fighters against Dr. Robotnik, who is the evil tyrant, who oppresses Mobius. Dr. Robotnik's henchmen SWATbots are robots. The Power Rings gives Sonic great power. Uncle Chuck, Sonic's uncle, has been turned into a robot by Dr. Robotnik and is forced to serve him. In one episode, Sonic has a recurring nightmare about Princess Sally.
