Wolfgang Petersen and Jürgen Prochnow worked together on U-Boot 96 (1981). While that film was in production, Harrison Ford was appearing in I predatori dell'arca perduta (1981). Steven Spielberg borrowed the submarine to film the scene in which Ford boards the Nazi U-boat.
