In September 1990, Shashi Kapoor stated the film was originally planned to be released in 1989. Shashi wanted it released on Idd. Then it got delayed to August but the film was still not ready. It was not like one particular thing was holding thing that was holding the film's release. Shashi still needed to book a studio for the back ground music. Amitabh still did not dub for the film. Rishi,Amrish and Dimple had already finished their dubbing work. With Sonam there was a problem that needed to be sorted out. The distributors stopped giving Shashi money. They told him they wanted to see the film. If it had any merits, only then would they pay him any money. Ajooba was a very expensive film. The only way they went over budget is because of the loan interest. The film was originally planned to be shot in a year and a half. But it took 2 years and a half.
