Colin Baker didn't return for Series 24 because he was fired from the series by John-Nathan Turner who was instructed by BBC controller Michael Grade to dismiss Colin Baker from the series and to replace him with another actor. A upset Colin Baker refused to film the regeneration sequence at the beginning of the Series 24 story "Time and the Rani" and Sylvester McCoy had to don a wig for the regeneration sequence.
