After the super success of his movie Charas 1976, Ramanand Sagar in 1977 started a costume drama, Baghavat with same lead starcast but the film got delayed for years. The shooting of the film began by shooting the climax. Before the release of Baghavat in 1982, Ramanand Sagar started to shoot for his next film Romance with Kumar Gaurav and Poonam Dhillon.
