The game-winning play at the end of the movie inspired other teams to try the same thing. On September 18, 2010, Michigan State faked a field goal for a touchdown in their match against Notre Dame, bringing them a 34-31 victory rather than a 31-31 tie that would have put the game into a second overtime. Afterward, coach Mark Dantonio said, "By the way, the name of that play is 'Little Giants'." On December 18, 2011, the Carolina Panthers called the play and fullback Richie Brockel scored on a seven-yard run. The Panthers won 28-13. Ironically, the play was later banned in Pee-Wee and Pop Warner football, though not at higher levels.
