This film was based on the real life experience of actor Steven Randazzo who was struggling to finance his own personal indie film entitled "Cagney Cried". When his investors started breathing down his neck (he was unable to finish the movie he had started), Randazzo turned to his friend director Michael Canzoniero for help. Canzoniero offered to deliver Steve a film, but not the one he had written but rather one about his current predicament with these very scary investors. That is the how the story of Making the Day was born.
