At the beginning of the ninth and final season, when Gregory Harrison, who was under contract with CBS and Lorimar, at the time, and his sitcom had been canceled the previous season, he was cast as tycoon Michael Sharpe in "Falcon Crest," replacing Susan Sullivan and almost without Jane Wyman (who had to take a medical leave). By focusing on him, the show became more and more his story and less and less the "Falcon Crest" series that it was for 8 years, the last season was nothing interesting, that led to its show's cancellation.
