Mysterio's illusion sequence contains 150 VFX shots, and was based on the dream films Nightmare - Dal profondo della notte (1984) and Paprika - Sognando un sogno (2006), the surreal animated feature Pennelli, rabbia e fantasia (1953) and the "Pink Elephants" hallucination from Dumbo (1941).Janek Sirrs described the sequence as an elaborate Broadway production with an unlimited budget.
