According to Alison Arngrim, Melissa Sue Anderson was very aloof and made no effort to make friends with any co-stars. Anderson left the show as a regular cast member after the seventh season because she felt the show was getting too "soap opera-ish" and she tired of being involved in tragic plotlines, such as losing her sight and losing a child in pregnancy.
