Since the series debuted in the fall of 1977, it is often assumed to have been inspired by the huge success of "Star Wars" and the popularity of science-fiction that followed. In truth, a series based on "Logan's Run" was already in development when "Star Wars" was released, although it did become one of the first S-F productions to appear in its wake.
