This was the first King Kong and Godzilla movie to be recorded in stereo sound (in this case, 4-track stereo), for its original release. The music score by Akira Ifukube was also the first Kong and Godzilla score to be recorded in stereo. Many subsequent releases of the film, including the US version and the Toho Champion Festival version, had a mono soundtrack. This would be the only Kong film in stereo sound until King Kong (1976), and the only Godzilla film in stereo sound until Il ritorno di Godzilla (1984).
