Square Pictures created this short to demonstrate that a CGI Matrix film was possible. They took the 3D model of the character Aki Ross from Final Fantasy (2001), gave her a haircut and a different outfit, and animated a fight between her and a "Sentinel" robot from the Matrix series. The finished short film also drew on the technological and artistic assets Square had assembled together for their Final Fantasy movie.
