It's been said that Garner's contract for the show included a salary and a percentage of the profit. What he didn't understand was that production companies were paid less than the cost of production, so there was no profit to share in. He sued the production for his share of the profits and lost. This may have led to his leaving the show. Production companies are willing to produce episodes for less than they cost because when they have 100 episodes in the can they can put them out for syndication where every dollar they receive is almost pure profit.
