The role of Kris was originally offered to Cecil Kellaway, who turned it down. The role went to Edmund Gwenn, Kellaway's cousin. Kellaway did play Santa in Vita da strega: A Vision of Sugar Plums (1964), which featured child star Bill Mumy.
