Originally, the film had two Nuclear Men. The first, played by Clive Mantle, was a prototype created by Lex Luthor in a lab. His scenes were filmed but eventually cut, allegedly because previews revealed several serious visual effects errors. Though he does not appear in the final edit, he does appear in the official comic book adaptation. The deleted footage was considered for a fifth Superman film.
