When the monster first arrives in New York, it capsizes an oil tanker near the Statue of Liberty. This is similar to a historical incident; on November 29, 1919, the White Star Line ocean liner Adriatic and the British steamer St. Michael collided near the Statue of Liberty. The latter vessel had to return under tow to Brooklyn for repairs.
