On re-watching the entire series run of The Big Bang Theory (2007), with new information on Sheldon's upbringing via the "origin story" prequel series Young Sheldon (2017), some of the later TBBT running gags and story arcs become more fleshed out, and the basis for some of Sheldon's reasoning, behavior and eccentricities makes more sense. One of the more intriguing ones with hindsight is how Sheldon and Penny eventually bonded over the run of the TBBT series. It looks like it has similar parallels with young Sheldon's surprisingly close sibling relationship with his sassy twin sister Missy, and how he treats both Penny and (older) Missy, in both series. Up to season 2 of "Young Sheldon" Sheldon is actually close to Missy, a bond he seemingly would later repeat with Penny, as he can relate to Penny via his own twin Missy, possibly as an unintentional sibling substitute friend.
