This movie's title refers to the Sith getting their revenge, something to which was already alluded in Star Wars: Episodio I - La minaccia fantasma (1999). It is, however, never explicitly mentioned in any movie for what they are actually seeking revenge. In official Star Wars canon, the Sith Order emerged from a group of Jedi who challenged the old doctrine that self-sacrifice and restraint were the way to access the Force. Due to the belief that they could harness its power through their (violent) passions, these Sith Lords were exiled from the Jedi Order. The Sith subsequently banded together according to the "Rule of Two", a succession of masters and apprentices with the common goal to conquer the Galactic Republic, and to exact their revenge against the Jedi Order for once expelling them.
