Jordan Peele used Il silenzio degli innocenti (1991) for inspiration on shooting the hypnosis scenes between Chris and Missy. The face-offs between Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, filmed in tight close-ups in which the characters look directly at the camera, informed Peele's style in these scenes.
