Bumblebee is now established to have been a central "member" of the First Special Service Force (F.S.S.F.), alternatively known as the "Devil's Brigade". Historically, it was an elite joint American-Canadian special operations unit famous for its role in the Italian and Southern-France Campaigns between 1943 and 1944. The F.S.S.F. was disbanded in December 1944, but its unique legacy continues in modern Canadian and U.S. Special Operations Forces.
