In a 2014 article at Grantland that named Bruce Willis as the holder of the "Action Hero Championship Belt" for his work on this film, two writers who were in their forties and both loved the film noted an interesting generational divide on the movie. While younger viewers, like the writers' children, loved the movie too, they all asked why it the setup takes a long time (almost half an hour) before the all-out action begins. The older guys told their kids that this kind of extended setup for fast-paced films in different genres was common in the 1980s.
