Brent Spiner has claimed he wanted Data to die at the end because he had visibly aged out of the role of an ageless android. However, following the release of Star Trek (2009), Spiner revealed that had there been another movie starring the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987), Data would have been brought back.
