Early in the film, Al Pacino and Johnny Depp have a scene about a "Fugazi diamond ring" with Terry Serpico. In the early 1970s, a time period just before the time period covered in this movie, Pacino had one of his most famous film roles portraying incorruptible NYPD detective Frank Serpico in Serpico (1973).
