In their camp at Kiungu, the Adamsons are seen sleeping with colorful African fabrics serving as duvets on top of their blankets. These are called "kangas" and are popular tourist items. Constantly appearing with ever-changing designs, they evolved from what was originally calico fabric right off the bolt. The "spotted" design reminded the locals of the kanga bird, which is dark with white spots, which is how it got its name. Along with their artistic designs, they also feature popular expressions in Swahili.
