(at around 14 mins) Bumblebee's original alternate mode in Transformers (1984) was a Volkswagen Beetle, but this was revised to a 1976/2009 Chevrolet Camaro. This was because Michael Bay wanted to avoid comparisons with Herbie the Love Bug, and felt that the Camaro held a more tough-but-friendly quality than the Beetle. As a tribute to the series, a yellow Volkswagen Beetle appears next to Bumblebee at the auto dealership (and as a joke, he damages it).Bumblebee appeared as a Volkswagen Beetle in the prequel film Bumblebee (2018).
