Andrea Romano had originally wanted Sir Christopher Lee for the role of Ra's al Ghul. However, she said it would have been too difficult to have him play a recurring role due to him living in England. They then thought of casting Michael York, who ended up playing another character called "Vertigo". The role eventually went to David Warner, of whom Romano is a fan.
