First, Maggie unknowingly develops a crush on a younger version of her father, just like a young Lorraine unknowingly develops a crush on her future son. Second, the scene where Mike/Mark stands up and defends his son Alex in the school cafeteria is patterned on the scene where Marty stands up, also in a school cafeteria, against Biff to defend his father.
