According to Nicolas Cage, this was not the first time he played a fictionalization of himself in a movie. His character in 'The Weather Man' (2005) was a reflection of his movie star persona. Cage revealed that his character in 'The Weather Man' (2005) is a reflection of himself including his divorce, relationship with his father, changing his last name and his public perception.
