Senator Brigham Anderson (Don Murray) is asked by his wife Ellen (Inga Swenson) "What happened in Hawaii?" - a pregnant question after a mysterious phone call. He guesses the caller is Senator Fred Van Ackerman (George Grizzard), and goes to meet him at a gay bar, but loses his nerve.
