Shining
Director Lee Unkrich's favorite film is referenced towards the beginning of the film, where an ax can be seen in a tree stump, in front of a 'red drum' (like Redrum, mentioned in commentary). Later, a painting of the twins is in the background during the Frida Kahlo scene.
