The characters' trek across a swamp paralleling Frodo, Sam, and Gollum's journey across the Dead Marshes in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers." Further, the name of Baljeet is merged with The Ring's Legolas the Elf to become Baljeetolas (additionally tied in by having bleached white hair and carrying a bow for shooting arrows). In a less than exact way, Buford's name also merges with Legolas, becoming "Bulavolus" even though he's made to look like the dwarf Gimli.
