When Harry goes to the room and finds Professor Quirrell, he says "No, it can't be, Snape he was the one... during the Quidditch match, Snape tried to kill me." To which Professor Quirrell replies "I tried to kill you.... I would have succeeded." This scene shows the disconnect from Voldemort's desire to kill Harry. Voldemort is controlling Professor Quirrell and to let him try and kill Harry goes against his nature.
